Beggin' Strips and Monkeys

My mom went shopping the other day and brought me back some of my favorite things--Beggin' Strips and a new monkey! This is the monkey she bought me. She said that I can play tug-of-war with this one unlike all my other monkeys. Those, I have to just carry around or snuggle with. She gets mad when I chew on their noses and ears!
She said this one is made by Kong and is supposed to hold up to dogs like me. I had one like it before, but I think it was bigger. I'll let you know if I tear it up!

I hate summer

Woof!

Summer is so boring. The rest of the year, I get to do fun stuff, but in the summertime, I'm stuck home most of the time. I love to go for car rides, and once school is out, I hardly ever get to go anywhere.

During the school year, my day goes like this:

7am - Wake up and hang out with my dad. He always tosses me a few Beggin' Strips

7:15am - Take my human sister to school.

7:25 - Come back home and snuggle with my mom until she wakes up.

8:15 - Take my human brother to school.

8:30 - Back home to take a nap, after I eat breakfast(I hope!)

Do nothing but relax until...

2:30 - Back in the car to pick up my sister.

2:45 - Home to watch the clock so I can be sure to let my mom know when 3:30 gets here. Sometimes she loses track of time!

3:30 - Off to pick up my brother.

3:45 - Back home for the night usually.

5:00 - Dinner. Always something good. Chicken, steak, pasta. I'm fed well.

8:00 - No later than this I expect my mom to be hanging out in her bedroom so I can get some rest. It's been a LONG day!

I miss my car rides in the summertime! ~~ Cooper

Note to Cooper

Dear Cooper,

You are a DOG. We love you, but you aren't a human. You aren't a child. You're a DOG. You need to eat DOG FOOD. That stuff in your bowl is DOG FOOD.

EAT IT.

You don't have to wait for me to make you some chicken or steak or even a burger. You can eat that stuff in your bowl. Really, you can!

Trust me. Lots of dogs eat that same food and they survive. None have died because they don't get 3 square meals of freshly grilled chicken or beef each day.

You'll be ok, too.

Try it. It's good for you. Really.

Either that or learn how to plug in the George Foreman grill for yourself!

Love,

Mom

Monkey Love

First up is a portion of Cooper's Monkey Collection. There are 5 in this shot and I apologize for cutting off "Snuggle-Bug Monkey's" head, but can you imagine trying to gather them to snap a picture with a hyper dog nipping at the camera? As you can see, they're well loved. Some are missing body parts and stuffing, but they're all loved!
Then we have Cooper with Love Monkey(see? He has a heart attached.) He's waiting for Mr. Polka Dot to rub his belly. I cut off his doggy parts in order to not be accused of posting puppy porn!

Finally, we have Cooper all snuggled up. He looks happy, don't you think? He just got a HUGE monkey last night and I'm trying to catch him snuggled up with it for another picture. He HATES the camera though!

Monkey Business

Cooper, the dog, has a monkey fetish. I discovered this a few months ago and the fetish has just grown with time. When we first adopted him, I had one of those flying monkeys that makes noise. I think it came in The Boy's stocking at Christmas. Cooper LOVED that monkey so much so that I bought several more as he destroyed them.

Then one day I stopped in Petsmart for a few things and found a Kong monkey toy. I bought it for him and he went nuts over it. Then various friends and family started bringing him monkeys. It has progressed to the point that he has names for the different monkeys. Ok, Mr. Polka Dot is the one who named the monkeys.

Flying Monkey(the name is self explanatory)
Tug Monkey(he's a tug of war monkey)
Friend Monkey (a Ty Beanie that he's managed to NOT destroy over the course of a month. He just carries it around in his mouth.)
Snug Monkey(Short for SnuggleBug Monkey because he takes it to bed each night.)
Squeak Monkey (A tug of war monkey who originally was Tug 2 Monkey, but Mr. Polka Dot decided that was too complicated.)

The reason this is so impressive is that Cooper knows EACH of his monkeys by name. He will bring you the monkey you ask him for. I tried to get a picture of Cooper with his Monkey Collection, however he runs from the camera. Lately, I've been rolling over in bed onto a monkey or two or three. It's really getting a little ridiculous.

My question is why the monkey fetish? What is it about MONKEYS?

My
dog
is
weird.

The Routine

There's a ritual in our house. Usually, sometime around 8:00pm or so, I head to the only quiet spot in the house to watch tv or spend the evening with my laptop. When that schedule changes, the Dog goes a little bonkers.

If, for some reason, I decide to watch TV in the living room, clean the kitchen, or just work in my corner of the living room known as my office area, Cooper(the DOG) will make it well known to everyone that I am supposed to be in the bedroom with HIM.

First, he will find me and just stare silently. When I notice him, he will run to the bedroom. If I don't follow, he will come back and then run back and forth between wherever I am and the bedroom. This evening, I was using my computer(in my little corner) and the next thing I knew, I felt my chair drop! He'd figured out how to lower my chair. Well, I'm not sure he'd actually figured it out. More likely, he was just trying to push on the chair to get me up. The noise and surprise scared him, so he spent a while under the bed after that.

Finally, I gave up. It wasn't worth the trauma I was imposing on the poor dog, so now I'm curled up on the bed, with Coop beside me watching football and typing here. I'm learning that dogs--much like kids--like to stick to routines!
